a.bar, a new sibling to a.kitchen at AKA Rittenhouse Square is a refined- yet unpretentious oyster, charcuterie and snacks bar focusing on superb wines, craft beers and cocktails. Designed by award-winning architect Edward Asfour of New York’s Asfour Guzy, who also designed a.kitchen, a.bar features natural materials, coffered ceilings and a 17-seat pewtered bronze bar in a refined design that complements the style of a.kitchen and AKA Rittenhouse Square.
a.bar is open from 3 pm for late afternoon eats and dinner seven days a week with priority seating and a separate entrance for AKA Rittenhouse Square residents. Snacks and small plates will be offered, as well as wines by the glass in 3 oz or 5 oz servings. There’s a focus on white wines that express minerality as well as a vast selection of fino and manzanilla sherries, all designed to match with the seafood menu. a.bar can accommodate parties of individuals, couples, friends and small gatherings up to 36 people.
a. kitchen, at AKA Rittenhouse Square, which recently received a glowing Three–Bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer’s restaurant critic, Craig LaBan, features flavorful and unfussy cooking using the best seasonal ingredients; over 300 delicious, terroir–driven natural wines; classic, well–made cocktails; and choice craft beers. The atmosphere, created by NYC architect Edward Asfour, is casually sophisticated, with a warm, modern yet timeless interior of white oak, patinated steel and Vermont marble, a 12–seat open kitchen, and a storefront that opens completely to the vibrant 18th Street scene with comfortable sidewalk seating.
